Common Knee Injuries You Should Know About

Views

Whether you’re an athlete or just a regular person who’s active occasionally, your musculoskeletal system is an important part of your body that you have to take care of. It’s responsible for helping you perform basic activities and get you places. For example, two important parts of the musculoskeletal system are your knees. Your knees help you in important activities like sports, running, jumping, and more.

Looking for a knee specialist in Singapore? If you’re an extremely active individual, you may be more susceptible to major knee injuries. Even small knee injuries can result in impeded movement and worse performance in sports and other activities. Here are just a few of the injuries you need to watch out for and how to treat them.

1. Knee meniscus tear. The knee meniscus is a C-shaped cartilage that acts as a shock-absorbing device for your knee. You can tear your knee meniscus if you twist your knee too much. There are different types of tears, and some might require surgery to heal.

 2. Tears in the anterior cruciate ligament (or ACL). The ACL is a key ligament located in the knee joint. It’s most commonly found in athletes that play intense ball sports. While some minor tears can heal without surgery, you most likely need ACL surgery in Singapore. If you do not need to participate in physically intensive activities shortly, you may be able to bypass surgical treatments.

 3.  Patellar tendinitis. Tendinitis refers to the inflammation of one or more of your knee tendons. When there’s an injury to your patellar tendon, this can cause you pain and limit your ability to kick, run, and jump.
