Dar al-Hajar is an historical palace that was constructed in the village of Souk Al Wadi.  Now Dar al-Hajar is considered one of the symbols of Yemen. It is located fifteen kilometers from the city of Sana’a, in the famous valley of Wadi Dhar. It is often called the Palace of the Imam. The exact construction date of the original castle is not known. Although, there is a perception that the first buildings date back long before the advent of Islam. During the Middle Ages, the castle was completely destroyed by the Turks, and in the second half of the eighteenth century has been partially restored. In thirtieth year of the last century, there has been re-built the palace of the Imam, who became his summer residence. Very same village also belonged to him. Currently, the building houses a museum. This pattern of Yemeni architecture is a seven-storey building with 35 rooms, pantries and kitchens. Around the palace there are five ruined watch towers.
