Konstantin Dimopoulos was born on 20 December 1954. He is a sculptor, installation and performance artist. Konstantin Dimopoulos created The Blue Trees. He paints trees blue in order to draw awareness of them. Dimopoulos’ use of ultramarine blue was probably unplanned, but his desire to create some kind of holy awareness of our ancient tree species was not. He says that “The Blue Trees is a social art action. Through color I am making a personal statement about the spirituality of trees and their importance to our very survival: trees are the lungs of the planet.” These colored trees will ultimately return to their natural state. In the meantime, Dimopoulous hopes that his work will inspire others to notice what is respectful about the trees that we have so inconsiderately ruined. They are an unusual canvas, but incredibly powerful all the same. The water-based pigment Dimopoulous uses is not toxic to the trees.
