The renderings for Party Wall show a series of steel poles clad in a woven skin of waste wood. Polyester bags filled with water will be suspended within the structure and, rather than build another canopy, CODA made sure that the height and spatial position of the wall will create a large zone of shade for the annual Warm Up performance series. The design also includes small stages at the base of the wall, delivering a variety of spaces for additional programming.
The Young Architects Program has emphasized sustainability more and more in recent years, and we were excited to see that the wood being used as the structure’s “skin” will be sourced from Ithaca-based skateboard company Comet, who is donating waste wood from their manufacturing processes. The wood Comet uses is sourced from sustainably-managed forests in the region.
